Early Morning at Piazza San Marco.

This is one of my favorite photos of Piazza San Marco in Venice, Italy.  I woke up at 6 AM for lovely morning light and to get shots of the square without the hordes of summer tourists.

Swiss Snow

A view of Matterhorn Mountain.

Snowtorious B.I.G.

I went on a lovely walk late this afternoon.  The streets were nearly empty. I wandered alone through the District enjoying the stillness and the cold air as the sun went down.  Enjoying the sound of my boots crunching through the ice and snow.  I never thought I would actually enjoy the cold (I grew up 2 miles from the Pacific Ocean) but today there was something about it that made me feel at peace.  At at time when I truly need it.

Here are some more snow photos for you, if you haven’t already gotten your fill at www.dcist.com.  After today, I’m back to my camera fast for the remainder of February and will be posting photos from the dusty film vaults.

Snowmageddon 2010

The District got slammed by a massive snowstorm last night.  Since this is officially my first blizzard, I decided to break my camera fast and take a walk outside to shoot some photos.  Despite the fact the snow is going to make life quite difficult for some in the next few days, you can’t deny the beauty of the scenery.

Travel

“Traveling is a brutality. It forces you to trust strangers and to lose sight of all that familiar comfort of home and friends. You are constantly off balance. Nothing is yours except the essential things – air, sleep, dreams, the sea, the sky – all things tending towards the eternal or what we imagine of it.”                                    – Cesare Pavese

Old Town or Ghost Town?

The main drag in Old Town Geneva.  There should be a tumbleweed somewhere in this picture.

Look Up

When I visit tourist-laden sights like the Vatican, I’m always looking for ways to make my photo a little more interesting.  Here, I just looked up.

Sisters

I’ve always been intrigued by the sight of nuns traveling in packs.

Here, sisters hurry to catch 7:00 AM mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.
